Day 4
Light in the Darkness
Read: John 7 & 8
Then & ThereIn John 7, we begin to see the tension around Jesus grow.Even His own brothers do not believe in Him at this point.People question Him.Some are curious.Others are confused. And some openly oppose Him.
During the Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus stands and makes a bold declaration:“I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12)
These words would have carried deep meaning, reminding people of how God’s presence once guided them through the wilderness. But the light Jesus brings does more than guide. It reveals. In John 8, we see this clearly.A woman is brought before Jesus, caught in sin. The crowd is ready to accuse and condemn her.But Jesus responds in a way no one expects. He does not ignore the truth. And He does not condemn her.Instead, He turns the moment, exposing what is hidden in every heart. One by one, the accusers leave. And Jesus says to her:“Neither do I condemn you… go, and sin no more.” (John 8:11)
In the same moment, we see both His grace and His truth. As Jesus continues to speak, the division grows. Some lean in.Others resist. He is misunderstood, questioned, and even accused of having a demon. And still, He continues to speak.“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)
But even this is difficult for some to receive. There are places where we can believe we are free, while still holding tightly to what we do not yet see clearly.
And yet, Jesus continues to invite.“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
Notice About GodGod’s light reveals what is true.It brings clarity. It exposes what is hidden. It invites us to see more clearly. But His light is not harsh or condemning. It is full of grace and truth.Jesus does not dismiss sin as though it doesn’t matter. And He does not turn away from us because of it.Instead, He meets us in it … and invites us into freedom. Here & Now ReflectionThe light of Jesus doesn’t only guide. It also reveals.Sometimes that feels comforting.Sometimes it feels confronting. Is there an area of your life where God may be bringing something into the light? Not to shame you, but to lead you into freedom?Jesus invites us not just to see the light, but to walk in it.What might it look like for you to trust Him in that today?PrayerJesus, thank You for being the light of the world. You see clearly what I cannot always see. And still You meet me with grace.Help me not turn away from Your light, but to trust that You are leading me into freedom.Give me a heart that is open to Your truth and Your transforming love.Amen.
