Day 3

Bread for the Journey

Read: John 5 & 6

Then & There
In John 5, Jesus heals a man who had been unable to walk for thirty-eight years.
It is a powerful moment. One that reveals His authority over sickness and suffering.
But instead of celebration, the miracle stirs tension.
Some struggle to accept what they are seeing, and even more, what it means about who Jesus is.
In John 6, Jesus feeds thousands with five loaves and two fish.
The crowd follows Him, drawn by what He has done.
But Jesus begins to shift the focus.
He says:
“I am the bread of life.” (John 6:35)
He invites them to look beyond the miracle. To see something deeper.
Not just what He gives, but who He is.
They were looking for bread. “Lord, give us this bread always.” (John 6:34)
But Jesus was inviting them to see that He Himself is the bread.
And not everyone is ready to receive it.
Notice About God
God cares for our needs.
He sees hunger.
He responds with compassion.
He provides.
But He also gently draws us deeper.
Beyond what He gives…into relationship with Him.
Jesus is not only the One who provides.
He is the One who sustains.
Here & Now Reflection
It’s natural to come to Jesus for what we need.
Help. Provision. Direction.
And He meets us there.
But He also invites us further.
To trust Him. Not only for what He gives, but for who He is.
Where might you be focusing more on what Jesus can do for you?
What might it look like to receive Him? Not just as Provider, but as your Source of Life?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for seeing my needs and meeting me with compassion.
Help me not stop there.
Teach me to trust You more deeply. Not only for what You give, but for who You are.
You are the Bread for this journey.
Amen.
