Day 12

It Is Finished

Read: John 18-19

Then & There
After praying in the garden, Jesus steps forward.
He is not taken by surprise.
He is not overtaken by force.
He knows what is coming.
And still…He goes to meet it.
“Whom are you seeking?” (John 18:4)
When He answers, “I am He,”
they draw back and fall to the ground.
Even here... His authority is clear.
And yet, He does not resist.
He allows Himself to be led.
When Peter reaches for the sword,
Jesus responds,
“Shall I not drink the cup... ?” (John 18:11)
The cup.
The weight of suffering.
The fullness of what is about to be poured out.
Not just pain...
but the judgment He willingly takes upon Himself.
He chooses it.
He is questioned.
Accused.
Struck.
Declared innocent…
and still condemned.
Mocked.
Beaten.
Crowned with thorns.
“Behold the Man!” (John 19:5)
“Behold your King!” (John 19:14)
They do not see Him.
And yet…this is the moment He came for.
He carries the cross.
He is lifted up.
And even here…He is still giving.
Caring for His mother.
Holding others in His heart.
Then…“I thirst!” (John 19:28)
The One who spoke of living water enters fully into human weakness.
He feels it.
He carries it.
And when all is complete, He says,
“It is finished.” (John 19:30)
Not taken from Him.
Given.
The work accomplished.
The way made.
The cost fully paid.
And He gives up His spirit.
Notice About God
The cross reveals the heart of God.
Not distant.
Not removed.
But willing.
Jesus was not overpowered.
He chose the cross.
He took the cup.
He entered our suffering.
He carried what we could not.
And in doing so,
He made a way.
Love, poured out.
Justice, satisfied.
Mercy, made available.
What looked like defeat was the fulfillment of everything.
Here & Now Reflection
This moment invites us to slow down.
To not rush past the cross.
He knew what it would cost.
And He chose it anyway.
What does it stir in you to see Jesus this way?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for the cross.
Thank You that You chose to give Yourself.
Thank You for taking what I could not carry,
and making a way for me to be reconciled to God.
Help me to see You clearly in this moment,
and to live in response to Your love.
Amen.
