Day 11
Carried In His Heart
Read: John 17
Then & ThereBefore the cross…before the arrest…before everything unfolds…Jesus lifts His eyes and prays.
He knows what is coming. The betrayal. The suffering. The weight of the cross.
And yet…He is not consumed by it.He pauses.
He turns toward the Father. Not out of fear, but from relationship. Not just focused on what He is about to endure, but on what He came to accomplish.
And in this moment, we begin to see what matters most to Him.His heart is connected to the Father, rooted in relationship and trust. His heart is for the disciples beside Him,those He has walked with, loved, and poured into.
And then His prayer widens.“All who will believe in Me…” (John: 17:20)
This moment stretches beyond the room.Beyond that night.Into every generation.Into us.
Jesus is not just preparing for what is ahead. He is anchoring His heart in what matters most. That we would know God.That we would be kept in His love. That we would be one.
He sees beyond the cross,to the life, the love, and the people it will bring home.
Jesus prays that we would know God,not just know about Him,but know Him personally.
Because this is eternal life,to know the Fatherthe Son,(and the Holy Spirit).
He prays that we would be held in that relationship, formed in truth, and sent into the world carrying His life and love.
“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” (John 17:17)Set apart. Not removed from the world, but formed within it.
Shaped by truth.Drawn out of darkness.Set apart for a life that reflects Him.
And at the center of it all, He prays,“That they may be one…just as We are one.” (John 17:22)
Not surface-level unity. But a shared life.A shared love.A shared connection with the Father.
He is not just praying for us.He is inviting us into the very relationship He has always known.
And then He says this,“You have loved them as You have loved Me.” (v. 23)
Notice About GodGod’s desire is not distant relationship. It is closeness.Connection.Union.
Through Jesus, we are invited into the life of God,into His love, His presence, His nearness.
And in that relationship, He forms us.He sets us apart, not to withdraw from the world, but to live differently within it.To reflect His truth. To carry His love.To be shaped more and more into His likeness.
This kind of life is not formed in isolation. It is formed in connection, with Him and with one another. We are known. We are chosen. We are held more securely than we could ever hold onto Him.
And we are loved…with the same love the Father has for the Son.
Here & Now ReflectionJesus did not only pray for the disciples in that moment. He prayed for all who would believe, including you.
You are included in His prayer.Included in His heart.Included in His love.
And you are being formed.Set apart, not away from people, but into a life that reflects Him.
Where might God be shaping you right now through truth, through relationship, or even through others?PrayerFather, thank You for inviting me into Your life and love.Jesus, thank You that You not only made a way for me to come to God,but to be with Youand to share in that relationship.
Shape me by Your truth.Set my life apart for Your purposes.
Help me live aware of Your nearness, grounded in Your truth, and connected to others in love.
Teach me what it means to belong to You.Amen.
