Day 13

Held in the Silence

Read: Matthew 27:57–66; Mark 15:42–47; Luke 23:50–56; John 19:38-42

Then & There
Jesus has been buried.
The work of the cross is complete.
And now…everything goes quiet.
The tomb is sealed.
The Sabbath begins.
And the world pauses.

But not everyone is holding this moment the same way.

Peter sits with the weight of his denial.
Three times he said he did not know Him.
Pilate has declared Him innocent…
and still handed Him over.
The women have stayed near.
They have watched it all unfold.
Now they wait…grieving what they have lost.
Most of the disciples are nowhere to be found.
Their absence is felt.

What do you do when everything you believed would happen…doesn’t?

The religious leaders continue striving.
Taking steps to secure the tomb.
Posting guards.
Trying to ensure the story ends here.
Joseph of Arimathea & Nicodemus...
Once quiet.
Once hidden.
Now stepping forward.
Handling His body.
Honoring Him in death.
Laying Him in a garden tomb.
At great personal cost.

And then… silence.

No movement.
No answers.
No resolution.

Just the space in between.

Notice About God
God is not absent in the silence.
Even when nothing appears to be happening,
His purposes are still unfolding.
This is the tension of the in-between.
Where what was promised has not yet been seen.
Where grief is real.
Questions are present.
And clarity has not yet come.
And still…He is holding it all.
Here & Now Reflection
We all experience moments like this.
The space between what we hoped would happen…and what actually unfolds.
The place where we don’t yet see what God is doing.
Where in your life does it feel quiet right now?
What might it look like to trust that God is still present, even here?
Prayer
Jesus, in the silence, when I don’t understand what You are doing,
help me to trust that You are still at work.
Meet me in the waiting.
Hold me in the unknown.
And give me faith to remain with You in the in-between.
Amen.
